What the app processes
The Persistent Self processes only what you choose to enter, select, or attach:
- Your answers: your name, date of birth, chosen future year, interests, routines, relationships, life events, goals, failures, values, and other written responses.
- Your choices: forced-choice answers, scale ratings, and your responses to the pre-written claims.
- Your finished record: interviewer follow-ups, the obituary, press release, dossier, private audit, portrait instructions, and portrait.
- Your images: the reference photograph you choose and the portrait made from it.
- Basic request details: a random request number, expiry time, file name and type when supplied, and the internet address of a request kept briefly to limit abuse. The app is not designed to place your answer text or image contents in service records.
- Copies on your device: your drafts, progress, generated documents, and local image copies.
Do not enter payment-card data, health records, government identifiers, passwords, access keys, one-time codes, or other authentication secrets. The app does not need them.
When information is sent
Writing or saving a draft does not by itself send that answer for generation. Information is sent when you deliberately ask for a follow-up, documents, or a portrait.
Interviewer
When you press the interviewer button, the displayed question and your answer are sent as a temporary request to the app service and made available to ChatGPT so it can write one follow-up.
Documents
When you press the document button, your answer transcript, selected results, and the writing instructions are sent as a temporary request to the app service. ChatGPT uses that packet to write the documents. The app does not retrieve the rest of your chat history.
Portrait
When you start the portrait step, the photograph you choose is added to your current ChatGPT conversation. ChatGPT uses that photograph and the portrait instructions to create the image. The app service handles the instructions and a reference to the finished image; it does not receive the original photograph itself.
Why information is used
- To save and resume the interview on your device.
- To provide the follow-up, document, portrait, print, and download actions you request.
- To keep temporary requests separate, remove them after expiry, and prevent misuse.
- To investigate availability problems without intentionally recording your answers or image contents.
The publisher does not use this content for advertising, sale, cross-service profiling, or model training.
Who receives information
- OpenAI: ChatGPT processes the text you submit for generation and the photograph and instructions you submit for portrait creation. OpenAI's terms, privacy policy, workspace settings, and data controls apply to that processing.
- The app service: it delivers the experience and holds each temporary request long enough to return the result. Its provider may process encrypted traffic and basic service records needed to keep the app available and prevent misuse.
- People you choose: anyone to whom you deliberately send a downloaded record, progress file, document, or image.
The publisher does not provide your content to data brokers or advertising networks.
How long information is kept
- Temporary requests: submitted text, portrait instructions, results, and file-reference details remain with the app service for no more than 30 minutes and are then removed automatically.
- On your device: drafts, generated documents, and local image copies remain until you remove them, clear the app's site data, or your browser or device removes them. People using the same browser profile may be able to see the same record.
- In ChatGPT: messages, attached photographs, app activity, and generated images remain according to your ChatGPT plan, workspace policy, conversation settings, and OpenAI data controls. Clearing the app from your browser does not delete the ChatGPT conversation.
- Basic service records: the app provider may retain ordinary request and availability details under the publisher's service settings. The app is not designed to include answer text or image contents in those records.
- Your downloads: records and progress files remain wherever you save or share them. A progress file contains private app state and image copies and is not encrypted by the app.
Your choices
- Leave a question blank, skip it, or stop.
- Remove a reference photograph or portrait from the app. If the photograph was already added to ChatGPT, use ChatGPT's controls to remove it there as well.
- Clear the app's site data to remove answers and outputs saved in that browser.
- Delete the relevant ChatGPT conversation or attachment using ChatGPT's controls.
- Download your record before clearing it.
- Contact the publisher with a privacy request. Include only enough detail to identify the request.
Security
The app uses encrypted connections, separate temporary requests, automatic expiry, request-size limits, and rate limits. No system can guarantee absolute security. Do not enter anything you are not comfortable processing in ChatGPT.
Young people
The app is intended for people old enough to use ChatGPT under OpenAI's terms and is not directed to children under 13. A parent or guardian should help a teenager decide what personal information and photographs to include. The questions can be emotionally demanding, and you may stop at any time.
ChatGPT account controls
The app uses the text and image features available in your ChatGPT conversation. Your ChatGPT plan, limits, workspace settings, data controls, and OpenAI usage policies still apply.
